Re:  Theft Deterrent System Shutdown 

 
 
One of the features in the set up menu of MAXX and FORCE games includes enabling a theft deterrent.  
If you choose to enable this option, the game will automatically shut down at specified intervals and you 
will need to reactivate the game by entering a personal identification number. 

 
How to Set the Theft Deterrent 

1.  Press the SETUP button (On the Countertop, located behind the coinbox.  On the Upright, located in 

the CPU section). 

2.  FORCE 2002.5/MAXX Emerald or earlier software:  At the Setup Screen, touch the OPTIONS button. 

FORCE 2003/MAXX RUBY or greater software:  At the Main Menu Screen, touch System, then 
touch Options

3. Touch 

the 

NEXT PAGE or > button to page through the options until you see ENABLE THEFT 

DETERRENT? 

4. Select 

YES or touch the box next to the option so that a check appears.  The game will then prompt 

you for a four to eight digit pin number. 

5.  Choose a number that you will remember, enter the number and touch return or enter.  It will then 

prompt you to reconfirm your pin.  Enter your pin number again and touch return or enter

6.  The game will prompt you to choose the intervals that you want the game to activate the Theft 

Deterrent mode.  Select the weekly interval by touching it. 

*In order to avoid the system shutdown, you must turn off the Theft Deterrent and turn it back on 
again before the end of the time interval that you have selected. 

7.  Exit the setup screen. 

 
How to Reactivate the Game 

If your game shuts down, the message SYSTEM SHUTDOWN, contact your local authorized 
distributor
 will appear.  Once your game shuts down you must go through the following steps in order to 
reactivate your game: 

1.  Touch the upper right hand corner of the screen. 

2.  Touch the lower right hand corner of the screen. 

3.  Touch the lower left hand corner of the screen. 

4.  Touch the upper left hand corner of the screen. 

5.  A keypad will appear in the middle of the screen prompting you for your pin number.  Enter your pin 

number.

6.  If you don't have your pin number, there is a button on the keypad that says Lost Your Pin (if the 

button is not on the screen, contact your local distributor).  Touch this button and it will give you a set 
of 25 numbers.  You will need to contact your distributor and give them the 25 numbers.  They will 
then contact Merit Technical Support who will be able to give them your pin number. 

7.  Once you enter your pin number, touch DONE and the screen will return to normal operation. 

Disabling the Theft Deterrent 

1.  Press the SETUP button (On the Countertop, located behind the coinbox.  On the Upright, located in 

the CPU section). 

2.  FORCE 2002.5/MAXX Emerald or earlier software:  At the Setup Screen, touch the OPTIONS button. 

FORCE 2003/MAXX RUBY or greater software:  At the Main Menu Screen, touch System, then 
touch Options

3. Touch 

the 

NEXT PAGE or > button to page through the options until you see ENABLE THEFT 

DETERRENT?  Select NO or touch the box next to the option to make the check disappear. 

4.  It will then prompt you to enter your pin number.  Enter the number and touch return or enter.  Once 

you disable the Theft Deterrent you will no longer need your pin number.
